Bishop’s Dinner
More than 1,000 people attended a gala at Penna's last month in celebration of the St. Thomas Chaldean Catholic Diocese and Bishop Ibrahim's anniversary. ECRC co-founder Karam Bahnam served as the evening's master of ceremonies. Guest speakers spoke about the history of the diocese as well as the community, and the soon-to-be Chaldean Library and Cultural Center was featured. "I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who came out and supported this evening," said Bishop Ibrahim. "I am truly honored that so many community members are united in Christ to keep our faith, traditions and culture alive."
The Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce celebrated 10 years at its awards dinner on April 12 at Shenandoah Country Club.
Keynote Speaker Gov. Rick Snyder had high praise for the community, saying Chaldeans have been instrumental in Michigan’s rebound. “Thank you for your role in helping the comeback of Michigan,” he said, adding that refugees and other immigrants will help the state continue to grow and prosper. “’If there is a group I can look towards who knows how to bring resources and get the job done, that has that entrepreneurial passion, it’s the Chaldean community.”
