Art Exhibition: The Detroit Public Library is pleased to welcome artist Ana Candioti in her first Michigan exhibition of her series of paintings, “50 Years of Immortality: Art Exhibition Honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” She began her series depicting the African diaspora back in 2000 when Candioti immersed herself in the Haitian culture of Miami. She continued to explore the African institutions, clothing, and religion of the city as well as Latin American communities, and has expertly portrayed the diverse and rich cultures through her portraits. Celebration: Join the celebration of the 1st anniversary of the Federal Pro Se Legal Assistance Clinic. Connect and celebrate with fellow supporters while enjoying delicious hors d’oeuvres and cocktails at the Miller Canfield Law Offices in Detroit from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Clinic, located at the federal courthouse in downtown Detroit, offers legal assistance to low-income individuals representing themselves in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. It is staffed by University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and operates with the support of the District Court, as well as a number of community partners. Winter Blast: Cold weather blows, but winter can be a blast — and it is, thanks to Quicken Loans Winter Blast Weekends. Entering its 14th year, the fest will switch to a four-weekend, totally free admission format this year, continuing the tradition of wintery, family-friendly programming full of marshmallow-roasting, ice sculptures, free ice skating (on the first and last weekends), zip-lining, a Polar Plunge to support the Special Olympics, and the return of a festival favorite, the 30-foot slide. This year’s musical lineup welcomes headliners Thornetta Davis and Laith Al-Saadi, DJs as part of the Movement Music Festival showcase, as well as 30 other artists. Running through Sunday, February 17, this event is free.

Charity: Share your heart, hands and time on Valentine’s Day! Join Art Moran Buick GMC as they help the Michigan Donor Family Council make fleece comfort blankets for new donor families as they grieve the loss of their loved one. No crafting experience necessary as they will show you how to make the blankets. Pizza, cookies and a variety of raffle prizes will be available for everyone. This free event will be hosted at the Art Moran Buick GMC dealership on Telegraph Road in Southfield from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. For those who would like to make a blanket, but cannot attend the event, you are more than welcome to make a blanket and drop it off at Art Moran Buick GMC in Southfield, the designated drop off center. Cooking Class: Learn how to make the decadent, much loved dessert treats to share with your loved ones on Valentine’s Day! In this hands-on class you will work on your own to prepare traditional cannoli dough, then shape and fry into shells. Next, you will blend a sinfully sweet ricotta cheese-vanilla cream filling to stuff them! Making cannoli is fun and surprisingly easy - you’ll never buy them again! You will need to bring your own supplies and ingredients. Supply list will be provided after you register. Hosted at Longacre House in Farmington Hills, this cooking class is open to anyone 18 years or older. Tickets are priced at $35 for residents and $40 for non-residents. Charity: Join the Chaldean American Ladies of Charity for their Timeless Hope Gala with a theme of A Night in Paris. Come enjoy an unforgettable evening of dinner, dancing and auctions at the Shenandoah Country Club in West Bloomfield. The VIP benefactor reception begins at 6:00 p.m. and the general admission reception begins at 7:00 p.m. VIP benefactor tickets are priced at $250 and general benefactor tickets are priced at $150.
