Mother's Day
BY HALIM SHEENA
As we get ready to celebrate moms everywhere this month, we wanted to know what Mother’s Day meant to members of the community. We posed the question: What does Mother’s Day mean to you?
When my mother wakes up to breakfast in bed, all the dishes done, the house fully cleaned to a sparkle, and her car washed with a mirror finish, that’s a normal day! I treat my mom like a queen! Every day is Mother’s Day to me, and that’s the way it should be. I’ll admit it, I’m a mama’s boy. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Your mom should be appreciated and treated with unconditional love every single waking second of your life! I promise you this lady is going to be a saint someday. I love you mom! Thanks for all the food you cook for me, keep up the good work, and please don’t hit me with a na’ala! – Dillon Atisha, 24, Bloomfield Hills
My mother is the person who made me who I am today. She’s the most beautiful and kind-hearted person I’ve ever seen and I’m always so thankful that she’s there for me through the good times and the bad. Mothers are truly so vital to our growth as people with everything they do. It’s so important that we celebrate them every day of the year and not just Mother’s Day but having that one special day to celebrate them and show them a little extra love with kind gestures is just a small part of what they deserve. – Jenel Kenaya, 22, West Bloomfield
To me, Mother’s Day means commemorating the one who does the most for me, the selfless woman who has given her all to make sure that my upbringing and my days are as great as possible. I set out to make each Mother’s Day as best as possible for my perfect mother, a woman who deserves more than one day of celebration. Every year, me and my siblings like to take advantage of the day by combining and planning our efforts in the best way possible. Usually one sibling buys flowers, another one cleans up the house, and another cooks my mom’s favorite foods. I can tell you that I truly believe I have the best mother in the world. We’re glad to work together to make the day great for her and return some of the immeasurable love she gives us! – Patrick Brikho, 24, Troy
Mother’s Day is a time to truly honor all of the mothers who chose life! Those who raised, cared for, and loved their children. This day helps me to realize how much I take my own mother for granted. It gives me an opportunity to express to her how much I love and appreciate her, especially since I wouldn’t be who I am today if it wasn’t for her love and support throughout my life. We also can’t forget that this day should be in honor of our Heavenly Mother, Mary. Mother of God and Mother of all! – Alana Bahoura, 27, Commerce Township
To me Mother’s Day means we are celebrating all of the strong, hardworking and beautiful women. But I do not believe Mother’s Day is only one day a year. Not only on Mother’s Day but every day we should be appreciating and celebrating our mothers and all of the sacrifices and love they give to us. – Lauren Narra, 21, West Bloomfield
To me, Mother’s Day means showing the utmost love for my mom, who sacrificed so much for me and my brother. Mother’s Day should be how we all treat our mothers every day, though. I would like to shout out my mom, Ghada, who makes the best Kibbe and Taboule, and for supporting me every day! – Zaid Yousif, 21, Warren
