The Chaldean community mourns Saad Halabo, owner of a check-cashing business on Woodward, who was shot Friday at his store around 4:15 p.m. and pronounced dead on the scene. He was 53 years old with three children.
Michigan State Police reported that “the suspect entered the building and went to the check cashing business. He made contact with the owner of the business when a confrontation occurred.”
The report said that witnesses saw the perpetrator flee from the scene on foot. They continued gathering evidence and searching for the killer until around 9 p.m. that night.
The next day, MSP reported arresting a 53-year-old man from Detroit who is the main suspect in the shooting. Paul Clifton McColor was arraigned Monday and took five charges including felony murder, larceny, and two felony firearm violations.
Halabo’s death marks the second murder of a Chaldean business owner just this year after Benham Rasho was killed at his liquor store in January.
