Jamil G. Anton

Dr. Jamil G. Anton was born on February 27, 1925 in Basra, Iraq, and passed away peacefully on March 14, 2022. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Georgette, of over 66 years; by his children, Luay (Istinar), Emile (Inaam), Sadeed (Jwan), Salwan (Lisa), and Cindy; by his 11 grandchildren, Fallon (Richard) Kapatais, Matthew (Olivia), Taryn, Isabella, Nicholas, Brooke, Morgan, Emily, Samantha, Derek, and Ethan; and three great-grandchildren, Alexander, Lucas, and Ariana. Dr. Jamil was a firm believer in the power of education and earned his Ed.D from Wayne State University in 1963. He went on to be the Chairman of the Department of Education at Niagara University for 27 years, gaining the prestigious title of Professor Emeritus. Dr. Jamil spent his most precious times gathering with family, traveling the world, and watching his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees. In his retirement, he dedicated himself to volunteering for various Chaldean organizations including our Churches, the Knights of Columbus, the Chaldean Federation Scholarship Committee, and the Chaldean Iraqi American Association of Michigan. He will be cherished and remembered for the great wisdom he shared and as a pioneer in the Chaldean community for encouraging others to pursue the route of education. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
