Reclaiming History for the Digital Generation
Launched in 2023 by a group of young Syriac (Chaldean-Assyrian-Aramean) activists in Germany, Syriac-History is a digital archive and media initiative dedicated to restoring an often-marginalized history to today’s online public square. Operating under Syriac Youth e. V., the project responds to a growing concern that Syriac history is either absent from mainstream digital platforms or reduced to fragmented, emotional, or politicized narratives—leaving younger generations without clear historical context or reliable entry points.
Rather than relying on traditional educational models, Syriac-History embraces the realities of the digital age. The platform produces short-form videos, interactive quizzes, storytelling features, documentaries, and even AI-generated music to engage young audiences while maintaining historical rigor. Notable among its work is a documentary on the Sayfo Genocide of 1915, addressing a chapter of history still largely unrecognized internationally. Grounded in established academic research and committed to a non-ideological approach, the project emphasizes accuracy, transparency, and ethical responsibility.
Built primarily on volunteer labor, Syriac-History is now seeking sustainable funding, partnerships, and broader community support as it looks toward expansion in 2026. Future plans include multilingual content, a permanent youth working group, educational publications, and expanded audiovisual storytelling. Ultimately, the founders envision the project as a lasting educational platform—one that strengthens identity without politicizing it and ensures Syriac history is preserved, understood, and confidently shared with future generations.
