Our archives this month explore some vacation photos of our international traveler, Dr. Adhid Miri, who shared some “mod” photos from the 1970s and more recent (but still decades old) photos from the year 2000.

Counter clockwise from above left: Our journey starts in London at the Picadilly Circus fountain in 1971. Dr. Miri shared with the CN that he was a little leery of fishing in the Lakes District in northern England in 1973—he didn’t know what he might catch! In 1977, Miri traveled south to Basra to visit the marshes around Al-Amara in southeastern Iraq and the people who live there. While in Basra, he had the opportunity to make kabobs with his students under a tent. In 2000, Miri went to the Holy City and took this photo from the Mount of Olives of the Dome of the Rock located on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem. In 1979, Miri traveled to southeastern Iraq and was excited to pose with the oldest arch in human history, dating to approximately 2600 BC, located in the E-dub-lal-mah temple, close by the ziggurats of Ur. We end with a year-2000 photo of the Brazen Serpent Monument on Mount Nebo in Jordan, which blends the staff of Moses with a cross. It stands at the Moses Memorial Church, a site overlooking the Jordan Valley.
