People power the Chaldean Football League

The Chaldean Football League is all about winning the coveted Chy Cup. It’s also about the people who make up the six-team flag football league. People like Karl Dallou, who completed his 30th season last fall. People like Ernest Yaldo, who finally became a league champion in 2017 in his 19th year in the league. People like Andrew Shango, a first-year quarterback who led the Green team to the league title last fall. People like Lance Samona, the Green team player-coach, who admittedly took a gamble when he made Shango, one of the league’s top receivers, the team’s quarterback.

The dangers of vaping

According to research, in 2015, more than a quarter of students in grades 6-12 have tried e-cigarettes. Local schools are warning parents of a growing trend of teens engaging in “vaping,” or the use of e-cigarettes. As the use of traditional cigarettes has fallen, the popularity of other nicotine products, including e-cigarettes has dramatically increased.

As we head into the New Year, I have come up with five things to watch in business for 2018. Automation becomes real: Budweiser outfitted a semi-trailer truck with $30,000 of computer ware and sent it 120 miles from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs—without a driver in it. There’s a huge shortage of truck drivers in the U.S. and it may be the trucking industry that leads the way on autonomous vehicles.

A dream and a hare

In an effort to pursue his dream of being a sommelier and wine producer, Harry Bahri sold his telecommunications establishment and took off for New York City. It would be in New York at the International Culinary Center that he would meet his partner Scott Carey, who like Bahri, had a vision.

In Shock

In 2008, when Rana Awdish, MD was seven months pregnant, planning for the arrival of her baby and finishing up her fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, a tumor in her liver burst open. Awdish had been unaware of the tumor and as a result of the burst, lost massive amounts of blood volume into her abdomen. Awdish required a blood transfusion to replace her blood volume and was placed on life support as she suffered multi-system organ failure and had a stroke from the loss of blood.

Fighting for her life

When Nuha Arabo was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, her first thought was her family and what the diagnosis would mean for them. Then again when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, Arabo thought of her family and how they would be heartbroken that she was sick again. Arabo knew, though that if she stuck with love and faith, she would prevail. And prevail she did.

A passion for fashion

When she was 20 years old, Olivia Rita Oram of Bloomfield Hills competed in a fashion contest and her winning outfit design was chosen and worn by Venus Williams at the 2010 U.S. Open. Everything changed after the competition. Four years later, at 24, she announced the release of her clothing line OLIVIANCIO at rapper Frenchie’s single release party in New York.
