Michigan Goes Blue

Abdul El-Sayed will be the new U.S. Senator from Michigan.

Michigan Democrats made significant gains in the November 3 midterm elections, regaining control of both chambers of the state Legislature for only the second time in more than 40 years. With Jocelyn Benson winning the governor’s race, Democrats will hold a governing trifecta in Lansing for the next two years. Democrats secured at least 60 of the 110 seats in the state House, flipping several Republican-held districts, while expanding their state Senate majority to as many as 23 of 38 seats, their largest majority since 1982. The victories included several closely watched races in Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties.
