Coping with the "Stay at Home" Order

How have you been staying in touch with friends and family during the ‘Stay at Home’ order?

This stay at home order has allowed me to connect with my friends and family in different ways! Most mornings after family breakfast we enjoy going on walks around the neighborhood when the weather allows! My friends and I always used to FaceTime, but nowadays the calls last A LOT longer, we also love to use Netflix Party to watch movies together even though we’re all at home!

The way I’ve been staying connected to friends/family is mostly through group chats and FaceTiming. A majority of my family like to talk on the phone or FaceTime in a group every day to stay in touch. Even though I can’t be with my friends physically, we make an effort to group FaceTime and play games over the internet, so it still feels like we’re all together.

Over the past 5 weeks or so, my cousins and I have been using our Snapchat group chat a lot more than prior to make up for the lost in-person time we normally spend with one another. On Easter and this upcoming weekend we will be doing a big family Zoom call. We have also utilized FaceTime quite a bit!

We do family Facetime with our cousins even though we’ve had a family chat for a couple of years. It’s nice to see each other’s faces all at once. And when everyone is talking at the same time, it feels “normal” to us! I also like to pick up the phone and actually call people. That in itself has been a lost art before the pandemic!

My friends and family have been keeping in touch by using group chats and FaceTime group calls. Social media has definitely made it easy to keep in touch. We’ve celebrated a few events digitally and some of my friends drove their cars to my house to celebrate my birthday.  We’re all excited to be reunited once the stay at home order is lifted.

We haven’t been able to celebrate Easter and even birthdays with the people we love. So we brought our Zorna & Tabul and got on our pickups and went to spread some love and cheer to our families. During times like these, a little music will lift any spirit!
