While some may see New Year’s resolutions as empty promises, others find them a great way to become energized in the pursuit of progress.

There’s something about a new year, and in this case, a new decade, that refreshes our perspective and reenergizes our mission. While it is a time to reflect on the year behind us, it is more importantly a time to focus on the future. This requires deep personal reflection to identify the necessary steps to achieve a specific goal.

It is not enough simply to have a goal. One must also draft a written plan that identifies realistic measurable steps it will take to achieve such a goal within specific timeframes. There can be nothing more empowering than crossing each step off once achieved.

If you need some help getting started on your New Year’s resolutions, take a look at writer Bianca Kasawdish’s piece in this month’s issue. Bianca highlights some of the most common New Year’s resolutions and lends a little advice as to how to achieve these goals. After all, everyone must start somewhere – usually it’s a Monday.

The growth we see in 2020 is not just personal. We are seeing growth across the community, from community centers to country clubs. Specifically, the Chaldean Community Foundation continues to work towards the completion of the 19,000 square feet. building expansion that will house a life skills center, mental health office and primary care clinic.

Several years of dedicated work not only made this expansion possible, but has led to the CCF’s recognition as a finalist for a Best Managed Non-Profit by Crain’s Detroit. Shenandoah Country Club is also working on an expansion of their own that will include a redevelopment of the pool area with the addition of a splash pad for members with young children. Alongside the splash pad will be an outdoor dining area for all members to enjoy.

Through hard work and determination, the community is thriving. I look forward to watching this continued growth and wish you all a prosperous and healthy New Year!
